And just to add to that quote Tan - does anybody actually recognise anyone in the crowd? I know I'm not on there as we always stood on the Somerton Road/Cromwell Road bend, depending on where the starting gate was it was the 2nd or 4th.

Anyone remember why the gate was moved and when?

I was looking at people in the crowd funnily enough, I always remember Jason Crump being around by there when he was a little kid.

We always stood over looking the pits on the 4th bend/home straight.

Right I'll have a go at a couple of the ones facing the camera

First the one wearing the bobble hat with his face partly obscured by no. 5's arm is Edgar Stangeland,secondly the rider, facing camera at the feet, is Dave O'Connor, to be honest I cheated and did a bit of research, I can remember the name but don't remember the face.
As for the others at a guess, from the build I thought no. 5 could be Bill Andrew,
no. 8? Terry Shearer was about at the time but I remember him being a bit bigger built than that.
However in the crowd to the right of Dave O'Connor's elbow is that a young Arthur, sorry I don't know the surname, who was one of the track staff at Hayley Stadium?

I'm pretty sure that it's not Sandor Levai, as I say I did a bit of searching and came up with this picture at

and the closest resemblence seems to be Dave O'Connor.
Bengt Brannefors does seem a little like the rear view of the no. 8 but I wouldn't have thought that he would have rode at that position unless he was just wearing the wrong race-jacket. The other name that comes to mind possibly at no. 8 was local junior Ian Terrar, but I wouldn't remember what he looked like either.
