Newport 'Darlows' Wasps v Stoke 'Easy Rider' Potters
Premier League
Sunday July 18th at 2.30pm
Meeting Number 26

Waspland Whisperings

Well the dust has settled on another Welsh Open Championship played out before a healthy number of fans finishing off the speedway weekend in South Wales.  Chris Slabon proved to be a real dark horse and just got better and better as the meeting went on.

Chris had one season with Ipswich in the Elite League some years ago but is interested in making a return to British Speedway.  As you can imagine we have had talks with him with respect to his plans for 2011 and we will keep tabs on his situation.  The same can be said about Robin Aspegren who has had a successful weekend with us a fortnight ago.  At present he has race commitments in his diary and we have to respect that.  Again we are maintaining a dialogue with the young Swede and rest assured we will keep you informed on any breakthrough.

Just to draw your attention to the fact that we have several fixture changes at Newport Speedway in August especially with respect to the Hornets so it is well worth rechecking the fixture list in the programme for both the Wasps and the Hornets.  We have two Friday fixtures for the Premier League team and two Sunday fixtures for the National League team as part of the changes for instance as well as confirming the prestigious National League Pairs here at Queensway Meadows for Saturday August 7th.  We are the defending champions courtesy of Tony Atkin and Grant Tregoning who took the title on the Isle of Wight last season.

This afternoon we take on the Stoke Potters who are also in the bottom half of the table but with both of our teams within touch of the end of season Jack Young Shield if we can start a run of wins.  Therefore a lot is at stake.  So on with the racing!

Steve

PS on Page 12 of today's programme we have details of a fundraising even on behalf of the floodlight fund in which you can subscribe to inflict pain and humiliation on Nick Mallett and David Dean.  Not to be missed!
