Newport Darlows Wasps v Somerset Dickies Rebels
Premier League
Sunday August 8th at 2.30pm
Meeting number 31

Waspland Whisperings

Well a busy weekend as we follow our staging of the prestigious National League Pairs with a welcome to our neighbours from across the Severn Bridge - the Somerset Rebels.

We have been promoting special admission prices for adults and families for this fixture and so we look forward to lots of Rebels fans making the trip in addition to our own loyal band of fans making it consecutive days of speedway action. Speedway is a family sport and like many other clubs this Summer we want to maintain and encourage that factor.

The Rebels have changed one or two riders as the season has progressed but all to the good of their performances so even though the Wasps have been on good form especially here at Queensway Meadows a tough battle is envisaged.

Don't forget that the Wasps will be back in action here next Friday at 7pm against the Rye House Rockets with the Hornets home next Sunday against the Weymouth Wildcats in National League action at 2.30pm. The pattern is repeated the following week when the Wasps face Glasgow on Friday 20th August at 7pm with the Hornets in action against the Isle of Wight Islanders in the National Trophy on Sunday August 22nd at 2.30pm. At present the flood lights are due to be initiated for the Premier League match against the Glasgow Tigers on the Friday August 20th date and we will keep you updated on that.

The floodlights will give us so much ore flexibility over the use of the stadium plus it will bring back memories of the spectacle of speedway under lights from the Somerton Park era and that should help induce ex speedway fans in the city back into the fold. Something to look forward to but for now our immediate task is to quell the rebellion by our visitors. So, on with the racing!

Steve
